Meet Kate Berlin! Kate is the founder of the non-profit Purple Dot Yoga Project. Purple Dot Yoga Project supports & empowers individuals affected by domestic violence and trauma using yoga as a healing tool.
Kate comes to St. Pete by way of Paramaribo, Suriname, the smallest sovereign state in South America. With a population approaching 600,000, this former Dutch colony is a melting pot of different ethnic & religious groups.
When asked why she loves DTSP so much Kate says “I love how everyone is super laid back in St. Pete. I like to think of St. Pete as the younger sibling to Tampa. A little bit of the black sheep, attracting artists and people who live life a little off the beaten path. Living in St. Pete, I sometimes forget I live in Florida with all of the healthy eating options & outdoor activities.”
Thanks for sitting down with me Kate!
Question: What inspired you or led you to your current career?
Answer: “Faith & trust lead me to my current career. I started Purple Dot Yoga Project to give back to the community I love so much. Purple Dot Yoga Project is a grass roots movement that started in St. Petersburg, but has since expanded to California. We offer Trauma Informed Yoga Teacher Training and one-on-one yoga sessions for individuals affected by domestic violence and trauma.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
A: “I see myself doing more of this. Laying in my hammock in my sunroom in St. Pete. I consider myself a very happy person & being in my hammock is my happy place. I love St. Pete & do not see myself leaving any time soon. If I leave, St. Pete will always be my home base.”
